If you’ve ever wanted to get a glimpse behind-the-scenes of our incredible collections, now’s your chance.
To celebrate what would have been Bill Richardson’s 80th birthday, we’ve got something special in store for our guests. Our Bill’s Birthday Back Shed Tour – coming Saturday, 31 October 2020 – will give petrolheads the chance to see what makes New Zealand’s premier destination for everything wheeled tick.
During this exclusive opportunity, guests will get to indulge in some of life’s simple pleasures: classic cars, classic memorabilia, and more trucks than you can shake a stick at.
The first stop is our Otepuni workshop. From here you will be guided on your journey through some of Transport World’s workshop facilities. Guests will be led by curator Graeme Williams and our incredibly talented workshop team will be on hand to chat to guests about the treasures found within – as well as the projects they’re busy tackling at the moment. Normally off-limits to the general public, this is your chance to see some of the vehicles set to appear within our collections before anybody else. If you have even a fleeting interest in wheels, this is one exclusive opportunity you will not want to miss. From here, guests will head onto the Tyre Max building.
Lunch will be hosted at Dig This Invercargill. Guests can expect a BBQ lunch and great company. Our team will be manning the barbie: all you have to do is relax and share some yarns with other likeminded guests.
Following on from lunch, guests will have the option to visit Bill Richardson Transport World. Our original visitor attraction is home to more than 300 classic vehicles, from Ford Alphabet Cars to grunty 1930s V8s, trucks of every make and model, retro-cool Kombis, and more. Guests will be guided throughout this extensive, world-class collection by none other than Joc O’Donnell: our executive director is Bill Richardson’s daughter and the creator of the Transport World family of wheel-themed visitor attractions. Be treated to plenty of personal anecdotes as Joc shares her wealth of knowledge and tidbits about the transport entrepreneur, and the vehicles he loved, throughout the tour.
